Matt Jenkinson is the Head of Forecasting at Valda Energy. Together with his bright, razor-sharp team, he predicts how much energy customers will consume in the years to come, down to the nearest half-hour. They build, utilise, optimise, and continually refine sophisticated models to minimize the gap between forecast and actual consumption. In a rapidly evolving industry, Matt and his team stay agile, embracing new initiatives, products, and ways of thinking to keep up. He believes in getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, always striving to improve forecasts and adapt to changes.

Matt’s expertise extends beyond demand forecasting to include revenue, commodity cost movement, expected sales, and cash flow. His clear vision of the future has helped navigate Valda Energy through one of the most extreme energy crises, steering the company towards its current success.

Before diving into the energy sector, Matt studied Film at university and dreamed of writing movie reviews for Sight and Sound magazine. While he still loves films—from 40’s Italian neorealism to cheesy 80’s sci-fi and even Happy Gilmore—he discovered a greater passion for data and data analysis. For Matt, telling a story through an interactive Power BI model, a fully optimised SQL script, or an Excel pivot table is even cooler.
