The role. 🤝
The Financial Controller will work closely with the CFO to prepare, develop, and analyse key financial information to aid the decision-making process within the business as we scale up. You will lead the day to day management of both Finance Operations and Financial Reporting.
As a member of the senior leadership team, you will work closely with all departments across the business, building effective relationships and providing a best-in-class service across, financial control, processes and systems.
The role is broad, so you'll need to be comfortable working on financial competencies, leading people and developing the reporting requirements.
How you will contribute. ✅
Reporting & Control:
- Ownership of cash and financial reporting including presentation of monthly financial performance to the CFO and other members of the Executive board
- Establish and implement financial reporting systems to comply with government regulations and legislation – both industry specific and general, including VAT and Corporation Tax
- Leadership of the group external audit process to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, maintenance of up-to-date technical knowledge of IFRS within the team and ownership of group and subsidiary accounting policies
- Implementing and maintaining internal controls to protect business assets
- Collaborate closely across all functions of the business to balance affordability, service and risk, including working with the Head of Collections to understand and minimise bad debt risk
- Continual improvement of Finance Operational and Reporting processes and systems
- Be a leader who empowers the finance team to develop and grow through coaching and constructive feedback
Financial Planning & Analysis:
- Lead the cashflow reporting and forecasting processes in line with business expectations and to optimise working capital
- Responsible for all treasury related matters including bank covenant reporting and forecasting
- Develop insightful analysis and reporting into business performance to drive operational actions and to maximise return on investment
- Partner with the Commercial team and lead the team to provide commercial analysis, forecasting and performance reporting of Gross Profit
- Provide commentary on the working capital and balance sheet positions each month end in respect to Revenue and Cost of Sales recognition. Utilise available Commercial management information to make recommendations for revenue and cost of sales risk management each month
What we are looking for. 🔍
- Appropriate accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), Ideally both industry and practice experience with broad and current knowledge of accounting principles
- Experience leading a finance function within a SME and be able to attract, motivate and retain the best talent
- Strong process and controls mindset and experience of key control frameworks
- Comfortable interpreting and scrutinising complex financial data and able to perform/review financial modelling
- Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills, able to provide insightful analysis, and challenge to develop broader thinking and strategy
- Demonstrate with confidence the ability to make tough decisions in line with our values, able to show resilience and critical thinking through change and ambiguity
- Excellent communicator with strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels
- A continuous improvement mindset with experience of implementing new-systems and processes
